What are some good historical fiction books for teens?

I need a historical fiction book for my history class that deals with U.S history between 1690 and 1877, for a project. I am a sophomore in high school, and I need something I would be able to handle. I am not a big history person, so I need something interesting. Some examples my teacher gave us were Manhunt and Desperate Passage: The Donner's Party Perilous Journey West. Desperate Passage sounds interesting to me, but morbid. Does anyone have any suggestions of good books that meat that criteria?
